Community Policing Takes Center Stage During National Night Out Events

National Night Out events will be happening across Maryland on August 4, bringing together law enforcement and residents at community centered events that promote connection between police and the neighborhoods they serve. 

Effective public safety is about more than responding to emergencies. It also depends on building strong relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Community policing gives police departments and sheriffs’ offices opportunities to engage with residents outside of enforcement situations, helping build trust, improve communication and create partnerships that can make communities safer.

For county governments, these relationships are an important part of a broader public safety strategy, bringing law enforcement, residents, community organizations and other local partners together to identify concerns and address them collaboratively. National Night Out provides a highly visible example of this work in action, giving residents an opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers in a relaxed setting while learning more about crime prevention and public safety resources.

County agencies are actively promoting this year’s events that will take place on Tuesday, August 4, including the Anne Arundel County Police Department, which is hosting four different events across the county.

Montgomery has six events planned and Baltimore County has more than 30 events planned to include neighborhood block parties, cookouts, outdoor movies, face painting, back-to-school giveaways, and much more.
