Carroll County Names New Health Officer

Carroll County has named Dr. Matthew Levy as its new Health Officer, bringing public health leadership experience from both local and national roles.

Dr. Levy previously served as Health Officer for Prince George’s County and, most recently, as Carroll County’s Deputy Health Officer. He has been serving in the role in an acting capacity since December.

Throughout his career, Dr. Levy has focused on community-based care and expanding access to services. His work has included developing programs to address population health needs such as asthma and immunizations, helping establish school-based health centers and mobile care programs, and securing funding to support public health initiatives.

From the press release:

“I am honored to have been asked to lead the Carroll County Health Department, said Dr. Levy. I am fortunate to have exceptional leaders who have come before me, and I am excited to work with such an amazing health department team dedicated to the health and well-being of county residents. I look forward to working together with our community leaders and partners to support and improve the health of everyone throughout this beautiful county.”

Leadership transitions in these roles can influence how counties approach issues such as access to care, prevention efforts, and community outreach. Dr. Levy’s experience across different jurisdictions highlights the value of cross-county expertise in strengthening local health systems.
