More Grant Funds Available for Local Agencies Doing Roadway Safety Enforcement

Another round of state grant funding for life-saving traffic safety initiatives is now available to local jurisdictions and agencies doing highway safety and traffic enforcement.
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s (MVA) Highway Safety Office is now accepting applications for traffic safety grants that support Maryland’s mission to eliminate roadway fatalities and serious injuries. Local law enforcement agencies may apply for funding until February 28. The opportunities will cover programs conducted from October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer shared:
“Through these grant opportunities, we’re looking to empower new and existing partners whose innovative ideas can help advance our Serious About Safety initiative and move us closer to our shared goal of zero roadway fatalities. Every project funded represents another step toward saving lives.”
Funds are being made available from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). In compliance with the Act, grant dollars can go towards highway safety programing and priority will be given to projects that address communities with the greatest demonstrated safety needs.

Eligible projects must fall within the following areas:

  • impaired driving
  • occupant protection
  • speeding and aggressive driving
