Talbot Firefighters Gain New AeroFit System for Safer, Smarter Mask Testing

Talbot County firefighters have received a brand new AeroFit testing system, a device that delivers precise, OSHA-compliant fit tests for N95 respirators, elastomeric masks, and other protective gear.

The equipment, fully funded by the County, was purchased to reduce costs for local stations and increase safety for emergency responders.

From the county press release:

“Providing our firefighters with the right tools is critical,” stated Jimmy Eason, President of the Talbot County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association “With the County’s support, this system ensures that every responder, whether volunteer, law enforcement, or emergency services staff, can be confident their protective equipment will keep them safe.”

Until now, fire companies had to pay for individual fit testing services, which added up in cost and required outside scheduling. With the new AeroFit system, once staff are trained, the tool can be used at any station, as well as by other local emergency responders, to test firefighter masks, N95 respirators, gas masks, and more.

This flexibility means the system will not only help volunteer fire departments but will also strengthen readiness across all county emergency responders.

Properly fitted masks are essential for protecting firefighters and other emergency personnel from hazardous smoke, chemicals, and airborne particulates. With AeroFit’s advanced technology, firefighters will know their equipment is performing as intended before entering dangerous environments.
