As the cost of housing continues to rise across Maryland, Garrett County leaders are putting community collaboration at the forefront in their search for local solutions.
The Garrett County Board of REALTORS® will host an Affordable Housing Forum on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 11:15 am to 2:30 pm at the Performing Arts Center at Garrett College. The event includes lunch and requires pre-registration by noon on Friday, April 25, 2025.
The forum will bring together local leaders, housing professionals, and community members to explore practical solutions that address Garrett County’s housing needs. Panelists will highlight:
- The Grantsville Attainable Housing Project
- Strategies to move from renting to homeownership
- Local down payment and closing cost assistance grants
“This is a unique opportunity for residents to connect with housing professionals, learn about available support, and be part of a larger conversation about shaping the future of housing in our community,” said Kelli Hallenbeck, Chair of the Affordable Housing Committee.
County leaders across Maryland continue to grapple with the rising cost of housing and the limited availability of homes for working families. Garrett County’s forum shows how local partnerships can drive forward-looking solutions, especially in rural areas facing unique affordability challenges.
Those unable to attend in person can skip registration and watch the event live on the Garrett County Board of REALTORS® Facebook page.
