Title: MD FAMLI Leave: Adapting Your Leave Program and Thinking
Description: Leave administration has been a difficult task for employers for many years. Adding new forms of leave with different eligibility criteria makes this task even harder for employers. With Maryland FAMLI on the horizon, employers need to anticipate and prepare for challenges that will inevitably arise through the administration of a new form. For many employers, this will be the first time leave decisions and administration will be handled by a third party, whether that is the state or a private-plan provider. Paid leave is unique, and it creates unique challenges for employers, including necessary changes to policies and procedures, educating employees about their leave options, compliance, and properly administering and tracking leave on the employer side.
