At the start of the 2024 – 2025 school year citations for school bus violations in Harford decreased almost 70 percent from the previous year since the cameras were installed. This decrease was seen on day one of the new school year, according to data from the counties automated enforcement team. It also followed a wave of outreach and and public information campaigns to warn motorists ahead of time. For the full month of September and October of this year data showed violations dropped by nearly half.

Traffic safety has been a major topic during recent legislative sessions. During the 2024 session, the MACo legislative committee voted to weigh in on six traffic safety bills, and policy team members reached 100 percent of the desired outcomes in those efforts. Keeping streets safe for residents and county employees working on and around the roadways is a shared concern across counties statewide. These efforts are likely to be renewed during the 2025 legislative session to the degree that automated enforcement bills are introduced by General Assembly members.
