Wicomico voters did not eliminate the position of county executive from the local government structure.
Wicomico County voters were presented with Question A this election day, which was a ballot measure to eliminate the role of the county executive and shift to county council governance with an appointed county manager. The amendment failed with a final vote of 55 percent not in favor of the change and 45 percent supporting it.
Question A read:
A revision of the Charter of Wicomico County to change from an elected Executive form of government to an elected County Council form of government in which the County Council is vested with both the executive and the legislative functions of government, together with an appointed Administrative Director to act as chief administrative officer of the County.
Wicomico voters originally approved the creation of a charter government in 2006 and those changes remain in place today following these results.
