Wicomico’s 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan: Bolstering Infrastructure, Health, and Community

This week, Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano outlined the County’s forward-looking 5-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), setting the stage for transformative projects to bolster infrastructure, enrich community spaces, and fuel economic growth.

The CIP encompasses essential projects that target facilities across Wicomico County, including upgrades to the Salisbury Regional Airport, consolidation of the Health Department, enhancements to the Civic Center, and developments in community parks.

Significant Projects in the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan

Salisbury Regional Airport Improvements

The Salisbury Regional Airport will see essential upgrades to support expanded services and operations:

  • Hangar Roof Rehabilitation – Roof repairs to ensure structural integrity and longevity.
  • Fire Suppression Systems – New fire suppression systems for hangars and the Business Park, enhancing safety for personnel, property, and operations.

Health Department Consolidation

The Health Department will consolidate its services in a newly designed facility off Mt. Hermon Road. This project aims to improve service accessibility and operational efficiency and provide a modern, centralized healthcare space in Wicomico County.

Civic Center Upgrades

Over the next five years, the Wicomico Civic Center will undergo critical improvements, including:

  • Elevator and Escalator Enhancements – Upgrades to enhance accessibility and convenience, making the Civic Center a more user-friendly venue.

Mason Dixon Sports Complex Master Plan and Renovation

A new master plan for the Mason Dixon Sports Complex will guide renovations designed to expand facilities, better serve athletes and visitors, and support Wicomico’s growing sports tourism industry.

Connelly Mill Park Master Plan

Looking to the future, Connelly Mill Park is slated for a comprehensive master plan in 2030, which will focus on recreational opportunities and preserving green space for future generations.
