Why it matters: Turner leads efforts to combat waste, fraud, and abuse within the school system. He has the authority to issue subpoenas and directs a team of investigators and analysts to enforce compliance and protect public resources.

Background: The Maryland General Assembly passed legislation creating the Office of Integrity and Compliance to enhance accountability and efficiency within PGCPS. In the 2024 session, State Senator Alonzo Washington introduced legislation to clarify the office’s provisions to ensure its effectiveness. Turner, appointed by the Council, brings 26 years of IRS investigative experience and has already launched several investigations.

What’s next: Turner will collaborate with the County Council and school leadership to identify high-risk areas and set strategic priorities, focusing on strengthening oversight and ensuring compliance across the school system.
