Anne Arundel County Superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell, discusses school safety and the rise in rumors and threats that they are working collaboratively to address with the Anne Arundel Police Department.
In an announcement this week both the Anne Arundel Superintendent of Schools and Anne Arundel Police Department addressed threats of violence in multiple local schools. Fortunately, officials were able to confirm the threats were unfounded but noted that the number of reports have been climbing. The incidents are typically getting started on social media and then spreading rapidly by individuals sharing the original content. As the messages disseminate they can incite fear of violence.

In a public service message released yesterday, Superintendent Bedell reiterated the importance of collaborating regularly with the police. He went on to impress upon parents the need to discuss the issue with their children as well. Now that school is back in session, jurisdictions across the state are increasing their vigilance on the matter.
