LGBTQIA+ Interest Group Meeting at #MACoCon

The LGBTQIA+ Interest Group Meeting brought together many participants to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing LGBTQIA+ individuals across the state.

MACo’s summer conference continues to serve as an essential forum for county leaders and residents, offering a platform to exchange ideas and address the diverse needs of Maryland’s communities. Howard County Council Chair Christiana Rigby led a conversation among stakeholders and allies, exploring ways that the MACo conferences and offerings may serve the needs and interests of the LGBTQIA+ community. It underscored the importance of creating welcoming environments within the workplace, ensuring that every individual feels respected and supported.

The session delved into several crucial topics, with a strong focus on how Human Resources can cultivate an inclusive culture. Participants discussed the implementation of inclusive policies at both the community and workplace levels. The interest group emphasized the importance of adopting anti-discrimination policies, partnering with nonprofits, and adapting old systems ensuring that hiring practices are free from bias. These steps are essential in creating a work environment where all employees feel valued and can contribute fully.

The working group plans to submit a topic for a breakout session at the next Winter Conference, to broaden the effect and influence of these inclusive ideas.
