Child care providers have important considerations to make when evaluating whether to become a certified pre-kindergarten provider under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future (Blueprint).
The State hopes to provide half of the new pre-kindergarten expansion seats required in the Blueprint by bringing on private providers who fulfill the certification requirements to participate. This mixed delivery option takes some of the burden off the local school systems from having to provide all of the additional new seats, which are expected to be in the tens of thousands. A recent Maryland Matters article discussed some of the apprehensions private providers have when navigating the onboarding system for private pre-k certification. Other providers look at it as an opportunity for guaranteed revenue and continued business, which could be uncertain as the school-based expansion programs start to enroll kids who would previously have been a part of the private program.
With Blueprint implementation ongoing across all 24 local jurisdictions, an expert panel of child care and education specialists will come together at the the 2024 MACo Summer Conference for the session, “Small Learners, Big Impact: Your Pre-K Expansion Roadmap in the Blueprint Era.” Leaders in the field will dive into the topic to discuss challenges, successes, and the overall outlook as rollout continues.
MACo’s Summer Conference, “Turning the Tide,” is August 14-17, 2024, at the Roland Powell Convention Center in Ocean City, Maryland.
