Food Assistance Programs in Montgomery Receive Community Resilience Funds

New grant funding will bolster food assistance and community resilience by significantly expanding cold storage capacity across fourteen organizations. 

Box of vegetables including eggplant, peppers, lettuce and kale.Montgomery County’s Office of Food Systems Resilience (OFSR), Manna Food Center (Manna) and the Morningstar Foundation have awarded more than $350,000 in funding to 14 nonprofit food assistance organizations and Montgomery County-based farm partners. Funding is to support the purchase and installation of cold storage infrastructure that will build the capacity of the local food system and food security network. The county provided $200,00 towards this grant through a special County Council appropriation.
