In 1983, Mary Marvin Breckinridge Patterson made a significant contribution to the public by donating the land. This land, recognized as one of the most vital archaeological sites in the Chesapeake Bay region, was her generous gift to the state of Maryland. Notably, her donation marked the largest land gift ever received by the state.
Encompassing over 9,000 years of recorded human habitation, the region surrounding the Patuxent River has evolved into a paramount historical treasure. Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, nestled in Calvert County, stands as a beacon of historical marvel. Boasting over 65 identified archaeological sites, extensive hiking trails, and engaging interactive exhibits, it offers a plethora of exploration opportunities for all.
