The Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) named Jared DeMarinis the next elections administrator. The vote was unanimous, and Mr. DeMarinis’s appointment is effective September 1, 2023.
Demarinis will succeed long-time SBE Administrator Linda Lamone, who earlier this year announced her retirement after holding the position since 1997.
Mr. DeMarinis currently serves as SBE’s director of Candidacy and Campaign Finance, where he is responsible for implementing electoral policy and interpreting candidacy and campaign finance laws.
“This is a tremendous honor, privilege, and opportunity,” DeMarinis said after the vote. “I will work hard to provide Marylanders with the best in voting and election administration.”
An essential function of Maryland’s county governments is to fund and oversee elections. MACo works closely with SBE to balance the shared goal of providing fair, open, and transparent elections.
