Annapolis Hillman Garage Closing May 2 for Full Rebuild

The Hillman Garage, near the MACo headquarters in Annapolis, will close for demolition May 2, 2022, and will be unavailable for use for more than a year.

According to Access Annapolis, the Hillman rebuild will take approximately 14 to 16 months to complete. Downtown Annapolis will remain open to residents and visitors.

Once completed, the new Hillman garage, built on the existing footprint, will include more total parking spaces (increasing from 425 current spaces to 590 spaces in the new garage); working elevators; easier entry, exit and payments; smart technologies like wayfinding and parking space detectors; stormwater controls; solar arrays on the roof (providing shade for cars while generating energy); Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations; bicycle parking; improved lighting, safety and security features; multi-purpose areas on the ground floor; and more.

Construction work will occur between 7 am and 4 pm. Gorman Street will be closed to general traffic, but available for parking and deliveries.

Alternative parking venues include Gott’s Garage, Park Place, and Knighton Garage. A free shuttle route from Park Place to Main Street and an electric trolley loop between Calvert Street, State Circle, Main Street, and West Street are available. Ride-sharing app Via will launch later in the spring, offering on-demand rides within a fixed service area.

Residents and visitors can visit the Access Annapolis website for parking and transit information for their commutes and visits to downtown Annapolis.
