This week, the Maryland Senate Republican Caucus unanimously re-elected Senator Bryan Simonaire as Minority Leader and elected Senator Justin Ready as Minority Whip.
Former Minority Whip Senator Michael Hough recently announced that he would not seek re-election in the Senate as he will be running for Frederick County Executive in 2022. As a result, he also decided not to seek re-election as Minority Whip.
According to a statement from the Maryland Senate Republican Caucus:
“Re-election by my peers is humbling and gratifying as I know there is much work to be done,” stated Senate Minority Leader Bryan Simonaire. “I am also very pleased to have such a capable and service-minded Minority Whip in Senator Justin Ready. We will continue focusing on restoring the voice of the people, providing solutions to problems and working to bring balance back to Annapolis”.
“I’m honored to be given this opportunity by our caucus,” commented Senate Minority Whip Justin Ready. “Our members will continue to be an energetic voice for commonsense conservative principles. I look forward to working together in the fight for transparency and accountability in Annapolis.”
Senator Michael Hough said, “I congratulate my good friend Senator Bryan Simonaire on his re-election as Leader and Senator Justin Ready on his election as Whip. I have full faith they will provide effective leadership through this next legislative session and the 2022 election.”
