MCDOT wins competitive $85,000 award to increase accessibility at MARC station in Germantown.
Montgomery County recently won an $85,000 award from the competitive “Transit Within Reach” Program, administered by the Transportation Planning Board.
“‘Planning for infrastructure today will help travel choices and accessibility tomorrow,’ said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. ‘Our County is growing in population and jobs. Providing the infrastructure that will provide access to public transportation hubs is key to advancing our climate action goals and will help ensure that our communities can support future growth'”(Press Release).
The funds will go toward designs for a new shared-use path which will give pedestrian traffic a direct connection to the Germantown station. Presently, this is the second highest station is ridership, but growth is being constrained due to a lack of parking.
