School Facilities Workgroup Focuses on “Facility Condition Index”

The Workgroup on the Assessment and Funding of School Facilities had a substantive discussion on July 28, with some conversation focusing on the still-in-development “condition index” as a potential means for evaluating current condition of school buildings.

The Workgroup on the Assessment and Funding of School Facilities, created by 2021 legislation, held its second meeting virtually this week. The majority of the discussion centered on presentations from the staff of the Interagency Commission on School Construction, and questions and insights from Commission members.

Some issues raised in the staff presentation, including the “total cost of ownership” concept and any potential incentives or funding changes attached to its use, have been lingering in the public debate without a consensus.

The meeting materials, including the agenda and full staff presentation, are available online.

The video of the meeting is available to view on the General Assembly’s YouTube site.
