NREL Seeking Local Governments to Pilot Online Permitting Program for Rooftop Solar

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking local governments interested in piloting their SolarAPP program that will allow for no-touch, online, instant permitting for residential rooftop solar projects.

NREL has been working with industry and local government partners to test and pilot the Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP) Platform and is seeking local permitting departments interested in piloting the program. Local governments can now apply to pilot and adopt the tool at no-cost.

According to NREL:

SolarAPP (Solar Automated Permit Processing) will:

  • Provide a flexible, web-based PV-permitting tool for residential systems at no-cost to jurisdictions.
  • Enable standardization of instant permitting processes.
  • Evaluate applications for safety and code compliance.
  • Offer opportunities to incorporate energy storage and expand to other market segments.

NREL will conduct a free webinar on Wed, Aug 5, 2020 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM to discuss how local governments can implement SolarApp as a stand alone program or in conjunction with existing software. For more information and to register for the webinar, visit the event page.
