The Baltimore County Council will consider legislation to delay the annual tax sale until October 2020.
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today announced that his administration will introduce legislation that, if approved by the County Council, would delay the County’s annual tax sale.
Baltimore County properties with unpaid real property taxes, accrued interest, or penalties may be auctioned at the annual tax sale.
Currently, Baltimore County is required by law to hold the tax sale “by the third Thursday in June.” The tax sale is scheduled for June 5, 2020. The County cannot alter this date without legislative action.
According to a press release:
“In the midst of this public health crisis, we continue to take unprecedented steps to support our residents,” Olszewski said. “We are optimistic that the County Council will join us in providing property owners with more flexibility during this uncertain time.”
If approved by the County Council, the legislation would postpone the tax sale until October 2020.
