Governor Hogan Appoints Lisa Belcastro to House of Delegates

Governor Larry Hogan today appointed Lisa Belcastro to the Maryland House of Delegates. The governor appointed Ms. Belcastro following the recommendation of the Baltimore County Democratic Central Committee.

Belcastro fills the seat left vacant by Shelly Hettleman, who was elevated to serve in the state Senate following the resignation of former Senator Robert A. Zirkin.

“I am confident Ms. Belcastro will serve the citizens of Baltimore County admirably in her new role,” said Governor Hogan. “I offer her my sincere congratulations and look forward to working with her during the remainder of the legislative session.”

According to a press release:

Currently, Ms. Belcastro is an adapted physical education teacher for students with physical and cognitive disabilities and learning differences for Prince George’s County Public Schools and a legislative aide for Baltimore County Councilman Israel “Izzy” Patoka. She has served on the Baltimore County Central Committee since 2018.

She founded the Charm City House of Jerky for the purpose of teaching job and entrepreneurial skills to individuals with disabilities. Additionally, she worked as regional director of the weekender program for Summit Camp and Travel, where she planned and implemented overnight trips that catered to campers with autism and learning disabilities.

She has a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Slippery Rock University, and is currently working towards her Master of Education in Instructional Technology at University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly University of Maryland University College). She will represent Legislative District 11 in Baltimore County.
