Brian Griffiths, editor-in-chief of Red Maryland, offered an analysis of the still-developing Kirwan Commission school funding plan as an opinion column in the Capital Gazette, where he is a frequent contributor. From his piece:
The commission recommendations are a laundry list of liberal priorities focused on expanding government and redistributing taxpayer dollars to liberal special interest groups. From universal pre-kindergarten, a focus on college preparation, to state-controlled syllabi and lesson plans for each class, it’s a rehash of failed ideas from the past.

The Kirwan Commission is expected to complete its work by the end of this calendar year, recommending legislative changes to school funding and oversight systems to be considered by the General Assembly in 2020.
