Women of MACo Lunch with Speaker Adrienne Jones

It was a packed room for the Women of MACo Luncheon, with dozens in attendance excited to hear from House of Delegates Speaker Adrienne A. Jones of Baltimore County. Women of MACo President and Frederick County Council President M.C. Keegan-Ayer welcomed everyone to the room and did something special. She took time to let everyone in the room introduce themselves and explain who they were. After all introductions were completed, Council Member Keegan-Ayer introduced Speaker Jones, highlighting her accomplishments of being the first woman and first African American to serve as Speaker of the House of Delegates.

Speaker Jones was a delight to listen to as she told her the story of her journey to Speaker of the House. Jones recalled her journey after graduating college – beginning her career as a staffer in Baltimore County Government and then moving to the legislature in 1997.

“You never know when opportunities present themselves- and you never know who is watching” Speaker Jones said. She added that there are more women than men in the House Democratic Caucus and emphasized that women chair half of the House standing committees.

MACo gives a huge thank you to President M.C. Keegan-Ayer and Speaker Adrienne Jones for making this luncheon a truly special event.

The 2019 MACo Summer Conference – “Winds of Change” on August 14-17 focused on the changes being seen at every level of government and constituent services and how counties are harnessing that momentum for the good of all Marylanders.
