Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman will nominate Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman for county health officer before the County Council when it reconvenes in September.
From a county press release:
Dr. Kalyanaraman is currently the Chief Health Officer for Health Care for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization with 245 staff that provides health care and housing support to 10,000 people annually.
…
County Executive Pittman will formally nominate Dr. Kalyanaraman by introducing a resolution to the County Council on September 3, at which time there will be a public hearing. Pittman announced his intention today in order to allow Councilmembers time to meet with Dr. Kalyanaraman before the vote. Passage of the resolution will give Maryland Governor Larry Hogan the authority to appoint Dr. Kalyanaraman as Anne Arundel County Health Officer.
Once appointed, Dr. Kalyanaraman will replace acting health officer Billie Penley. Penley, who will be returning to her previous role as the health department’s chief financial officer in the health department, has been serving as acting health officer since August 2018.
