Howard County Hosts 27th Annual Wine in the Woods

The Howard County Recreation and Parks Department hosted its annual “Wine in the Woods” festival in Symphony Woods at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia on May 18 and 19. The festival, now in its 27th year, highlighted Maryland wineries as well as local crafts and food. The festival attracted thousands of people from across the state.

This year’s event included over 20 wineries (including Winecream), 10 restaurants, 12 specialty food vendors, 30 artisan and craft booths, and 12 musical acts. Attendees could also attend free classes on wine tasting and painting. The musical offerings ranged from rock and country to reggae and jazz.

Over the years, the festival has become one of the signature annual events hosted by the Recreation and Parks Department. County elected officials, including County Executive Calvin Ball, and staff were in attendance throughout the two days.

The event offered an App for Android and iPhones that included information on attending wineries, vendors, and entertainment, including a site map. Finally, in addition to normal recycling options for glass, aluminum, and plastic containers, the event offered cork recycling stations in each of the wine tasting areas.
