President Trump has directed Attorney General Sessions to sue opioid companies for their contribution to the epidemic sweeping the nation. The Wall Street Journal reports:

In a cabinet meeting Thursday at the White House, Mr. Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to bring a “major lawsuit” against drug companies that “are really sending opioids at a level that it shouldn’t be happening.” He said he wanted the attorney general to bring the suit at the federal level, rather than join existing litigation brought by states.

The article notes that earlier this year the department requested to join settlement talks with states and local governments across the nation that have filed lawsuits against the companies.
