Washington County is taking over the former Fort Ritchie site and transforming it into a mixed-use development — a move that estimated to bring 3,000 people and 1,000 jobs to the area.

As reported on Stars and Stripes:

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted 4-0 to have the county become the property owner and sole developers of the Cascade Town Centre at Fort Ritchie.

County Administrator Gregory B. Murray tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the proposed mixed-use development would have academic, commercial, residential and recreational uses.
