The House Capital Budget Subcommittee concurred with capital budget language today that would require the State Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services to report on local jail and detention center population statistics.
The Senate has already approved the study language as part of its capital budget deliberations.
Here is the capital budget narrative:
The Decision Document states,
Receipt of this information for every county on an annual basis would allow the General Assembly, the Department of Budget and Management, DPSCS, and the counties to better assess local jail and detention center capital needs.
According to the Capital Bond Decision Document, the report on local jail and detention center populations shall be submitted to the budget committees no later than September 1, 2016, and annually thereafter.
