Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission Delays License Announcements

Large volume of applicants pushes back January announcement to summer; Revisions to timeline for full rollout.

As reported in The Cumberland Times-News:

The rollout schedule for the medical cannabis industry has been revised in part due to the high volume of applicants seeking licensure as growers, processors or dispensary operators. The commission received 146 applications from prospective growers, 124 applicants for processing and 811 applications for dispensary licenses.

The number of applications for dispensary licenses was driven up by some companies applying for licensure in multiple senatorial districts. This was done despite commission rules stating there will be just two dispensaries permitted in each of Maryland’s 47 senatorial districts.

The commission has not yet released a revised timeline for the awarding of dispensary licenses. The current updated schedule is for growers and processors only. The commission said it will release a revised dispensary timeline in the near future.
