State Receives Large and Geographically Diverse Set of Medical Cannabis Applications

A November 10, 2015, Hagerstown Herald Mail article reported that with the passage of the initial November 6 deadline for submitting applications for medical cannabis growing, processing, and dispensary facilities, Maryland has received a large and geographically diverse amount of submissions. From the article:

“We’re very pleased not only with the number of applications we received but also the geographic diversity they represent,” [Maryland Medical Cannabis] Commission Executive Director Hannah Byron said in the release. …

As of 5 p.m. Friday, one hour after the deadline, the commission had processed a total of 355 applications, covering every county in the state. Those included 50 applications for cultivation licenses, plus 36 for processor licenses and 269 for dispensary licenses.

The state will award 15 grower licenses and up to two dispensary licenses in each of the state’s 47 senatorial districts.

The 2015 MACo Winter Conference will feature a session on planning and zoning for medical cannabis facilities and the application process on Thursday, December 10, at 3:30 pm.
