Counties Required to Provide PIA Contact to Attorney General’s Office

Legislation (HB 674) passed during the 2015 Session requires all governmental units, including counties, to identify a contact person that the public may use when making Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) requests.  Counties must submit information on this PIA contact person to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) as soon as possible (the deadline was October 1).

A governmental unit must submit the following information:

  1. Name of Contact
  2. Business Address of Contact
  3. Business Phone of Contact
  4. Email of Contact
  5. Internet Address of the Contact’s Governmental Unit

If you have not already done so, please submit this information to: PIA.custodians@oag.state.md.us.  Under the legislation, OAG must publish each contact’s name on their website.

Please contact Les Knapp at lknapp@mdcounties.org or 410.269.0043 if you have questions about this or other aspects of HB 674 of 2015.
