Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee Celebrates 50 Years of Service

A September 14, 2015, BayNet article announced the recent 50th anniversary celebration of the Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee (SMTCCAC). SMTCCAC is a non-profit organization offering anti-poverty programs for roughly 20,000 residents in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties. Congressman Steny Hoyer was the keynote speaker at the September 12 celebration. Several of Hoyer’s quotes from the article:

“From head start for low-income pre-schoolers to emergency food assistance, from companionship programs for seniors to career training for those seeking work, today the Committee’s programs are making a real and tangible difference in the lives of Southern Maryland residents.”

“The work the Committee has been doing for 50 years in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties continues to serve as a model for the work we must do next as well as the work being done by other organizations in Maryland and across our country,” continued Congressman Hoyer. “Most of the programs the Committee operates are sustained by federal funding, and I’ve been proud to support this funding throughout my time in Congress. State and local governments, which help support the efforts of organizations like the Community Action Committee, need more support from Congress to address the challenge of poverty, not less.”
