MRPA Leadership Institute Accepting Applicants Through August 3

The Maryland Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA) is currently accepting applicants from local parks and recreation officials and employees for its second Leadership Institute class.  The Institute helps train and develop future parks and recreation leaders.  From MRPA’s Leadership Institute Information Packet:

As MRPA embarks on yet another very exciting year of quality training and programs, we want to take a minute to speak to you about one particular initiative that we believe will truly excite you – the MRPA Leadership Institute.  This is the second year the program is being offered and judging by the positive reviews from last year’s class and the enhancements we have made this year, it’s going to be something you will want to take a look at for your department…

The Institute’s curriculum prepares the student to hone [sic] their skills and learn from industry leaders how to manage the many facets of what we do in the field.  You will quickly see staff emerge from the program better leaders, negotiators, problem solvers, and future mentors to their staff.

Participation is limited to 20 individuals who are MRPA members.  Institute curriculum includes training in: ethics, legislation, finance, conflict resolution,  strategic planning, professionalism, presentation skills, and management and motivational skills. Continuing education credits are awarded.

The deadline for applying is August 3, 2015.  The cost for participating in the Institute is $500, which includes course materials, lodging (for September), and meals. Scholarships may be available.  Institute classes will start with a two-day overnight program in September and then meet once a month from October 2015 through March 2016.
