Maryland Elected Official Opening for Northeast US County Caucus Board

There is currently an opening for a Maryland Board Member on the National Association of County’s Northeast County Caucus. The Northeast County Caucus is a regional affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo) with representation from Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Participation in the Northeast County Caucus affords insider information in to federal policies that affect Maryland county governments.

Throughout the year, the Caucus hosts monthly conference calls where NACo policy staff provide updates on federal issues of particular significance to the northeast counties, including federal transportation and infrastructure funding, environmental regulations, and tax issues.

Here are recent updates from the Northeast County Caucus:

  • Transportation Re-authorization and the Highway Trust Fund
  • Waters of the U.S. EPA Regulation
  • Proposed EPA Ozone Standard and Potential Impacts on the Northeast US
  • Federal Human Trafficking Legislation
  • The Affordable Care Act’s 40% excise tax on employer-sponsored health benefits
  • Update on Marketplace Fairness Act

The purpose of the Caucus is the promotion of a clear understanding of mutual issues among all county officials of the Northeast states and their fellow officials throughout the nation; the provision of a single source of information concerning county government in the Northeast region which shall be available to NACo, to the United States Congress, to all county officials, and to any other appropriate person or organization; and better county government throughout the Northeast and the nation as a whole.

The Board of Directors consists of four officers, the elected regional executive committee member, plus two representatives from each state. The Northeast County Caucus meets twice a year, once in the summer at the Annual NACo Convention and once in the winter, at the Legislative Conference in Washington D.C. Conference attendance is not mandatory for Board Members.

Please contact Robin Clark at MACo if you are interested in serving as a Maryland Member of the Northeast County Caucus Board of Directors.
