MACo Urges Federal Support on Conowingo and Bay

MACo submitted written testimony in support of Senate Joint Resolution 1 (SJ1), which was heard by the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee on February 3. This resolution asks the United States Congress to review the studies related to the Conowingo Dam. As a result, work would be done to minimize the pollutatnt load reaching the Chesapeake Bay from the Susquehanna River.

The written testimony explains:

MACo believes that the Conowingo Dam is an important piece (although not the only piece) in the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) “puzzle.” The Association has supported the ongoing efforts of the Chesapeake Bay Commission and the Maryland Department of the Environment to address the dam’s impact on the main stem of the bay and certain Chesapeake Bay tributaries.
