Delegate Cathy Vitale, a former Anne Arundel County Council Member and former MACo Officer and Board member, has been appointed as an Anne Arundel County Circuit Court Judge.

The Republican attorney from Severna Park served in the House since 2011 and was re-elected last month to the redrawn District 33, which sweeps from the Broadneck Peninsula through Severna Park, Odenton, Crofton and Davidsonville.

Vitale was on a short list of candidates sent to Gov. Martin O’Malley for consideration. She interviewed with the governor 10 days ago, she said. Vitale was called Monday afternoon with the news.

“This is the capstone of my professional career,” she said. “I am still processing and enjoying the news.”

In about a month, Vitale will be sworn in. Republican leaders in the county will accept applications and hold interviews to fill her seat.
