On December 1, 2014, Jan Gardner was sworn in as Frederick County’s first county executive, which marked the official change to a county form of government.

Gardner, a Democrat, took the oath this morning before an audience at the Weinberg Center for the Arts.
In her remarks, Gardner reiterated campaign pledges to create independent ethics commission and strengthen laws holding officials accountable.
“So now it’s time to get started,” she said. “It’s time to be bold.”
The new county council is also being sworn in this morning.
