MACo’s Winter Conference will be held January 7-9, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Hotel in Cambridge, MD. The conference theme is “The Road Ahead” and will focus on local government legislative priorities for the upcoming General Assembly Session, integrating newly elected officials, and building relationships with new legislators and the new Administration.
Educational sessions will provide a mix of topics from overviews on county government fundamentals to more advanced policy issues. One such session will focus on the importance of maintaining the local government infrastructure and the challenges associated with keeping it up.
Description: Counties own a lot of “stuff” – from canoes to roads, and from computers to pumping stations. Do you know what you have, what it will take to keep it in good shape, and how you will pay for it? When times are tough, maintenance often gets deferred, but even in good times infrastructure might not get all of the attention it should. Our speakers will discuss the importance of maintaining infrastructure – creating an infrastructure inventory, setting priorities when buidling your capital plan, and developing a sound financial approach to pay for it.
Speakers: Speakers will include representatives from Washington County’s Division of Engineering and Construction Management, Baltimore City’s Budget Office, and Public Financial Management.
Date/Time: Thursday, January 8, 2015; 2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
