Queen Anne’s Approved Budget Funds Technology Upgrades, Laptops for Students

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners unanimously passed the county’s fiscal 2015 budget during their regularly scheduled meeting on June 2. The $118.9 million budget maintains county tax rates; and provides technology upgrades for the school system and laptops for every middle school student.

As reported by The Star Democrat:

Every public middle school student in Queen Anne’s County will get a new laptop next fall, resolving concerns from the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education.

The budget also includes a technology upgrade, new textbooks, sound system upgrades and new security cameras for school buses with funding coming from the county’s capital fund balance.

In addition, the budget funds the following items:

The budget will also fund from the operating budget county employee cost of living increases for the full year at a cost of $168,750, $2,500 to Community Mediation Upper Shore and $5,000 to the Sudlersville Memorial Library.

The budget also includes new positions, beginning Nov. 1, in various county departments at a cost of $156,750 and $19,500 from prorating the salaries and health insurance of the county commissioners in the new term.
