Allegany Proposed Budget: Targeted Funding, Tax Rate Drops a Penny

Allegany County has announced its proposed FY 2015 budget of $82,142,773, which is a reduction of $524,659 from FY 2014’s budget. In the budget, there are no tax or fee increases and a reduction of $0.01 in the real property tax rate. Also included in the budget are:

increased appropriations from last year for the Allegany County Health Department, the Allegany County Library System, and the Fire Companies. …a 3% Cost of Living Adjustment for Allegany County employees, no new positions have been created.

For FY 2015, we will see a reduction in our debt service of $449,618 thanks in large part due to not relying on issuing debt in recent years. We have also reduced our contribution to PAYGO by $505,000 to assist in balancing the budget during these difficult times.

  • Economic Development – 1.8%
  • Social Services & Health – 4.4.%
  • Recreation, culture, miscellaneous – 5.3%
  • General government – 10%
  • Public works – 12.2%
  • Public safety – 19.8%
  • Education – 46.5%

Allegany County will adopt its FY 2015 budget on June 5, 2014.
