Don Kettl and Wallace Loh of UMD, Scott Hancock and Michael Sanderson of MML and MACo, gather to celebrate the new Academy partnership

MACo, the Maryland Municipal League (MML), and the Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT), as co-founders of the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance, are proud to announce a new partnership with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.

The Academy, a voluntary certificate program for county and municipal officials, provides local government leaders with expanded training and educational opportunities. The program was previously administered by the University of Maryland’s Institute for Governmental Service and Research, but the new partnership with the School of Public Policy will enable the program to broaden the subjects offered along with providing additional delivery methods.

The UMD School of Public Policy has issued a Press Release about the new partnership.

Matriculating Fellows in the Academy with questions about credits completed or credits they still need for completion of the program should contact the Academy registrar at 301.314.2641. Two Academy core courses, “Employment Issues” and “County Financial Management,” will be offered at MACo’s Summer Conference, along with a selection of elective credits to be announced soon.
