As reported in the Carroll County Times, Maryland’s State Superintendent of Schools, Lillian Lowery, visited Carroll County to attend a pep rally commemorating Century High School’s achievement as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School. Century is one of six Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools for 2013, as reported by the Times. The students showcased their abilities at the event, prompting the Superintendent to ask if all of Carroll’s students were so talented.
The school’s spring athletes were introduced. Century has won 28 state championships since opening 12 years ago. The award-winning drum line performed. The school’s cheerleader and dance teams jumped and grooved. The drama club students showcased a selection from their spring musical, “Bye Bye Birdie.” Lowery asked Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent Steve Guthrie if all of Carroll’s high schools had such talented students.
He said they all did.
