At their October meeting at MACo headquarters, The Maryland Association of Human Resources Officers shared a pamphlet that county human resources officers have seen in circulation. The Association of Human Resources Officers anticipate that the pamphlet will be relied on by employees seeking to understand their rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The pamphlet was published by the U.S. Department of Labor in August 2012 as “The Employee’s Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act.” The guide aims to explain the basic elements of the FMLA, such as:
- Who Can Use FMLA Leave?
- When Can I Use FMLA Leave?
- What Can the FMLA Do for Me?
- How Do I Request FMLA Leave?
- Communication With Your Employer
- Medical Certification
- Returning to Work
- How to File a Complaint
- Web Site Resources
