The National Association of Counties’ Large Urban County Caucus (LUCC) recently convened to discuss the emerging legislative issues effecting metropolitan counties in 2012. The Committee, chaired by Baltimore City Council Member Helen Holton, is a bipartisan coalition of elected county executives that monitor legislative activities, meet with relevant stakeholders, and advocate on the pressing issues. Four key areas were selected by the group as a focus for the upcoming year:
- Restore the Partnership for American Health: Counties in a 21st Century Health System
- Support for the Nation’s Transportation Network (Reauthorization of SAFETEA-LU)
- Building Urban Communities
- Improving Government Operations
LUCC works in concert with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the White House, the U.S. House of Representatives’ Congressional Urban Caucus and others in these advocacy efforts. For more information view LUCC’s webpage on the NACo website.
