The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners has named Charles “Chuck” Johnston as the county’s director of the Department of Planning & Zoning.
Johnston comes to Calvert County from Clarke County, VA. where he served as the county’s Planning Department director for 22 years. He has also been a planner for several other jurisdictions including Albuquerque, N.M., Aurora, Colo., and Hanover, Va. As a consultant, Johnston worked with local officials on the implementation of state-mandated Chesapeake Bay Critical Area regulations in Talbot County, Md. “I am very pleased to serve the Calvert County Board of Commissioners and all residents by helping foster efficient development while preserving the county’s unique natural heritage,” said Johnston. “I look forward to working with the community as we pursue these goals.”
“We are excited to have Chuck join county staff,” said Calvert County Administrator Terry Shannon. “His experience as a planner dovetails well with the county’s vision for the future as outlined in our Comprehensive Plan.”
