Prince George’s County To Implement Speed Cameras

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker plans to implement a speed camera program, employing mobile camera units on roadways in school zones. The program was initially authorized by the County Council in 2009, following statewide authorizing legislation passed that year, but not implemented by the county government. A number of municipal governments within Prince George’s County do have similar enforcement programs, also limited to school zones.

The County is considering a variety of locations for the new cameras. Consistent with the state authorizing laws, drivers would be fined $40 only if documented as driving at least 12 mph over the posted speed limit.
