Prince George’s County To Consider Consolidating Services with School Board

Prince George’s County Council Chair Ingrid Turner has proposed the establishment of a Task Force to look at cost-savings measures between the county and the school board.  According to the Gazette,  Turner thinks that any consolidation of services, such as vehicle maintenance, human resources departments or the supply orders, likely would save the county more than the school system, as the latter is the larger entity, but this could give the county additional funds to allocate to the school system.

Other task forces have been established over the years, but the council has not taken action on those recommendations.

If the proposal is adopted by the entire council, members of the task force would be appointed by Turner, school board chairwoman Verjeana M. Jacobs (Dist. 5), County Executive Rushern L. Baker III (D), the Maryland State Board of Education, and by other bodies within county government, the school system and the business community. The task force, if approved, would have 180 days to present its recommendations to the County Council.
