Today the State Board of Education issued their filing guidelines  for counties seeking waivers from their FY 2012 maintenance of effort requirement.  Six counties (Anne Arundel, Kent, Montgomery, Queen Anne’s, Talbot and Wicomico) submitted formal requests for a waiver by the state’s deadline of April 1, 2011.   The important deadlines for briefs from counties, position papers from local boards of education and supporting comments from education groups and the public are:

1) May 2, 2011 by 5:00 pm EST-Date for Filing of MOE brief from the 6 counties

2) May 9, 2011 by 5:00 pm EST-Date for Local Boards of Education to file Position Papers

3) May 9, 2011 by 5:00 pm EST-Date for Response/Comments from Public and other organizations

4) May 11, 2011 by 5:00 pm EST-Date for a County to file a Reply to all Responses and Comments

The Board will hear ALL waiver requests for all 6 counties on May 24, 2011 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
